TURBOX ‘Down Under’!

Back in February 2019, a delegation from Oji Fibre Solutions travelled from New Zealand to Germany to see the latest generation of BAHMÜLLER specialty folder gluers and the MuK robot palletiser at a reference visit at Zerhusen Kartonagen in Damme, located in the north of Germany.

Zerhusen is a family owned plant, running three Turbox lines and a fourth line is already on order. They had started with a Turbox 2300 and PowerPacker followed by a JetBox 1700, also with PowerPacker, and lately the XL version of the Turbox was installed; two lines are equipped with MuK robot palletiser.

Thanks to the hospitality of the Zerhusen family, all questions of the OjiFS team were answered and they have now collaborated with Bahmüller and MuK. The decision of Oji Fibre Solutions to buy a Turbox with PowerPacker, in combination with the MuK robot palletiser for their greenfield plant in New Zealand was made quickly, once all budgets had been approved.

The delivery of their new machines took place in August 2021. After the challenge of the current Governmental rules in New Zealand due to the pandemic had been mastered – and as soon after the production hall at the new site had been finished – Bahmüller’s engineers were able to install the complete machine line successfully.

The automated line was specified with the aim to achieve the highest level of quality and maximum output in one run. The versatile Turbox is well equipped and therefore sets the base to produce any kind of box.

Quality Control

Bahmüller’s QS Systems, like the DFS and UNIQUE EJECT, work with the latest Baumer HHS glue system, XTEND3. The smart and inherent drive concept with energy saving motors reduce the gap between high performance operation and rising energy costs.

To achieve maximum output at lowest head count along the machine, the solution was to install a PowerPacker (complete with Mosca SoniX 2 inline strapper) and robotic palletiser. The ‘Performance’ version grants maximum flexibility and reduces the workload of the operators to a minimum.

Ready for the Future

Highly efficient, energy saving motors and components support the existing scheme of carbon footprint reduction in the most modern OjiFS plant in New Zealand. Oji Fibre Solutions has aspirations for a better tomorrow and is committed to contributing positively towards the environment.

Allan Marshall, National Project Engineer, OjiFS Packaging, said, “Thanks to the excellence of the Bahmüller and MuK instructors, the operator team took great advantage of the set up concept to increase the availability of the complete line.”

In addition a big step was taken to reduce waste, thanks to the QS Systems, even at the highest output speeds. Marshall continued, “We presented all the critical orders our operators were struggling with in the past to the trainer and he showed us how versatile and productive the Turbox is.”

The service tool Bahmüller Augmented Reality – BAR – significantly expands the possibilities of remote maintenance and repair. Users can send images and live videos to Bahmüller experts via tablet, smartphone or smart glasses and receive real time visual support and targeted information in case of malfunctions or maintenance work. Once a problem occurs, the Bahmüller helpdesk can support the local technician and give immediate help, 24/7.

Marshall concludes, “It has been an absolute pleasure building a relationship and working closely with the Bahmüller team, both remotely and onsite. The after sales service they have given our team has been exceptional.”
