New corrugator, new milestone at VPK Packaging

With over 90 years of experience, VPK Packaging continues to invest in the latest technologies. At its Erembodegem site, a new BHS Corrugated 2.8m line replaces the previous 2.5m machine and was installed in exactly the same location, with minimal disruption to production. Thanks to a well-thought-out plan, smart logistics, and the dedication of its employees, VPK Packaging were able to continue producing boxes — even during the seven-week conversion.

“This investment is not only a technical milestone but also proof of what internal collaboration can achieve,” said Tony Reunes, Operations Director Corrugated Board BE & NL, VPK Packaging. “Our choice for a 2.8m machine aligns with our ambition for our site in Erembodegem: growing from 100 to 170 million sqm of corrugated board.”

What does this mean for customers?

The new corrugator is a state-of-the-art installation that enables the Erembodegem site to produce board with:

  • Higher quality through advanced glue temperature control;
  • Less waste thanks to more efficient processes;
  • Greater reliability via the integrated zero-defect system;
  • Faster delivery due to increased capacity.

“With this upgrade, we can respond faster, deliver better, and produce more sustainably,” adds Reunes.

Stronger together: employees and partners made the difference

Reunes continues, “Our employees played a crucial role in the success of this project. Their flexibility and commitment made it possible to keep production running during the conversion. Our external partners were also invaluable. Their expertise and involvement accelerated the installation and ensured a smooth start-up. Thanks to the modular setup and the flexibility of our contractors, the milestone was reached ahead of schedule.”

Continuing to invest

Together with the earlier investment in a BOBST four-colour flexo folder gluer in Oudegem, VPK confirms its forward-looking ambition, continuing to invest in technology, sustainability, and customer value.

“Our next step? Activating the dormant volume on the rotary die-cutter,” concludes Reunes. “By switching to three shifts, we aim to increase converting capacity to 120 million sqm — an important intermediate step toward our goal of 170 million sqm for the Erembodegem site. This investment marks a strategic step toward higher capacity, better performance, and greater customer focus.”
