DeLine Box & Display are a family owned corrugated packaging manufacturer that has been serving the Rocky Mountain region and beyond for over 100 years. They have a rich history in Denver where the company’s current President, Dave DeLine’s great grandfather designed some of the first solid fiber heart shaped candy boxes in 1912. Dave’s grandfather got into corrugated which was up and coming in the 1930s, and Jim DeLine (Dave’s father) opened the current location in June 1972, heralding the start of the current DeLine Box & Display.
“We are the only independent corrugated packaging company left in Colorado and we serve brands across food, beverage, pet, produce, e-commerce, and retail sectors,” explains Dave DeLine. “We have built our reputation on fast turnaround times, consistent quality, and packaging that performs in real-world conditions – from distribution centers to club-store shelves.”
DeLine now have two sides to their business; traditional corrugated packaging, serviced by the corrugator and extensive complement of converting machines including rotary die-cutters, gluers and more; then the Digital print side with a Barbaran printer and Zünd digital cutter.
Today, the company employs 130 people across two facilities, some of those people having worked for the company for over 30 years. The manufacturing facilities are located across the street from each other, one for the corrugator and traditional converting, and the other for the digital print and production.
“Our customers range from consumer packaged goods companies in the specialty food and beverage space to pet products, produce, e-commerce,” adds Dave DeLine. “We work with a lot of brands that want beautiful digitally printed e-commerce boxes and displays as well as flexo printed shipping boxes with just a logo on the side. We have to cater for a broad range of needs, and the wide choice of equipment means we can prodive exactly what the customer wants in the fastest time possible. From shipping containers and basic RSC boxes to digital multi-color POS & POP displays, e-commerce boxes, club store packaging – we also offer fulfillment services, supplying customers within a radius of almost 1,000 miles of Denver. Some customers we service nationally.”
Well Equipped
The company boasts a strong portfolio of production equipment. From a 2.5m (98“) corrugator, to two flexo folder gluers, two HBL multi-color hi-definition printer/rotary die-cutters, a digital single-pass digital press, two specialty gluers, and a jumbo printer/die-cutter. There is not much that DeLine can’t handle!
Bolstering the Gluing Department
A project to increase production capacity in the gluing department started in 2023 with an initial needs analysis and vendor evaluation. The selection process was completed in the first half of 2024, and working with the chosen vendor – JD Engineers – the chosen machine was delivered and commissioned in April 2025.
The Tanabe JD BoxR is capable of producing a wide range of box styles and runs many different types of corrugated board. Of great importance for DeLine is the ability to produce auto lockbottom boxes, and 4- and 6 corner trays, at a good rate of speed. The machine is highly automated relative to setup features, thus greatly reducing setup times. Repeat orders can be recalled at the optimum setup as they were produced before. Another key feature is quality control. Electronic sensors in the machine can detect missed folds, as well as detect glue variations outside a set application tolerance. Any misfolded, or misglued box is being detected and ejected from the line prior to being bundled, therefore eliminated a common source of quality issues.
Great Relations
“JD Engineers has been a vendor to DeLine Box for many years,” says Dave DeLine. “The JD team knows our production team well, we trust in their ability to train, and support the equipment. As expected, the delivery and installation went smoothly, and we have had several follow-up visits for further in-depth operator training. Overall, JD delivered on its promises and we are very satisfied.”
He continues, “The machine performed well following the installation. As with any new piece of equipment, the operators go through a learning curve while familiarizing themselves with the new machine. That is nothing unexpected. Yet overall, we met, and some cases exceeded minimum setup tolerances and output performance.”
“JD Engineers has worked with us for years, selling us an older Tanabe gluer, and over the years has been updating that machine with new drives and the latest safety features,” concludes Dave DeLine. “Their support team has been working with us as a trusted supplier and we value their competence. We are very happy with how things have progressed since installing the new BoxR specialty gluer line.”
