DS Smith releases film exploring closed loop of corrugated recycling
DS Smith has released a short film showing the journey of recycled paper fibre around the Supply Cycle of its Packaging, Recycling and Paper Divisions. ‘Box to Box in 14 Days’ follows the two-week journey of a corrugated box as it’s made, used, collected, recycled and manufactured again through DS Smith’s packaging, recycling and papermaking operations.
In demonstrating its closed loop model, the film embodies the company’s reputation as a leading supplier of sustainable packaging solutions. By managing over five million tonnes of fibre for recycling across Europe every year, DS Smith prevents around 360,000 trees* from being cut down. ‘Box to Box in 14 Days’ shows how.
The video was filmed at a number of locations, including a DS Smith recycling facility, paper mill, packaging plant, design studio, and on both Retailer and FMCG customer sites.
Tim Price, Marketing Director of DS Smith’s Paper and Recycling Divisions, said, “The film of ‘Box to Box in 14 Days’ allows us to demonstrate the DS Smith Supply Cycle, from the point that packaging is designed, through to its use in getting customer products visible and accessible on retailer shelves. Following a box on this journey, the film looks at how fibre is collected, recycled and manufactured into new packaging products. We are proud to be one of Europe’s leading paper and corrugated manufacturers, managing over five million tonnes of recycling every year. ‘Box to Box in 14 Days’ is the story of how we do that. Using some clever filming techniques, the viewer can actually look inside the paper machines that recycle the fibre. The film brings Closed Loop Recycling to life, and is a great way of engaging our colleagues, customers and wider stakeholders in the part they play in this great story.”
Vanessa van Dongen, Marketing Director of DS Smith Packaging Europe, said, “DS Smith is a leading supplier of sustainable packaging solutions, so we are delighted to be able to show how our packaging is designed, produced, brings value to our customers and recycled into more boxes. Throughout our Supply Cycle, from design through to recycling, we provide sustainable solutions for our business, our customers and our environment.”
