BloomPack produces first sheet on new coating line in Egypt

BloomPack has produced the first sheet from its new coating line in Egypt, marking a milestone in the development of its coated white top liner operation. The company said the result followed several years of investment, engineering and construction work.

The project forms part of BloomPack’s expansion into paper manufacturing. In April 2024, the company confirmed a partnership with Valmet to develop coated white top liner grades, with coating material supplier Omya also involved in product development. The partners carried out trials at Valmet’s Paper Technology Center to refine the grades before the new line was built.

Valmet developed the offline coating machine for the project. BloomPack says the facility incorporates curtain coating technology, automation and process controls designed to support consistent production. The coated liner is intended for packaging applications where surface quality and printability are important.

BloomPack, which also manufactures corrugated packaging, has described the project as part of its wider investment in an integrated paper and packaging operation. Production of the first sheet follows the line’s construction and commissioning work; the company has not yet confirmed a date for full commercial production or a capacity figure specifically for the coating line.
