Mondi has developed an optimised corrugated packaging concept for Stiebel Eltron’s water heater range, reducing the number of corrugated board grades used by more than 75% while maintaining product protection.
Stiebel Eltron previously used around 150 packaging variants. Mondi analysed the existing solutions and grouped them according to product weight and transport requirements, enabling suitable brown corrugated board grades to be identified for each product group and simplifying the overall packaging portfolio.
The redesign also replaces four-colour printed designs with white digital printing on brown corrugated board. According to Mondi, the technology enables multiple designs and print volumes to be produced using the same material base, reducing changeovers and helping avoid overproduction while maintaining the reproduction of small text, QR codes and barcodes.
