Siegwerk has confirmed the launch of CIRKIT OXYBAR WHITE, a new product that combines oxygen barrier performance and white ink functionality in a single layer.
The integration of these functions changes how barrier performance is incorporated into packaging structures by embedding it within the ink rather than relying on a separate material layer. Conventional packaging structures typically require separate layers for oxygen protection and white opacity, adding materials and processing steps. Cirkit Oxybar White combines both functions in a single inline-applied ink. The solution provides:
- High oxygen barrier performance (OTR < 5 cc/m²/day at 50% RH)
- A bright white, opaque finish for print quality
- One-pass application using standard printing processes
This enables converters to replace two layers with one, simplifying packaging structures while maintaining performance. With Cirkit Oxybar White, Siegwerk is expanding its Barrier Inks portfolio, in which barrier functionality is incorporated directly into the ink.
The company previously introduced Cirkit Oxybar White, combining grease barrier and white ink functionality in a single layer. Cirkit Oxybar White builds on that platform by combining oxygen barrier performance with a white opaque finish.
The approach enables converters to use backing white as a functional layer and apply barrier properties inline during printing without additional process steps. Barrier Inks, and specifically Cirkit Oxybar White can support:
- Replacement of conventional oxygen barrier materials such as EVOH, PVdC, aluminium foil and metallised films in applications that do not require additional WVTR barriers
- Simplified mono-material structures that support design-for-recycling objectives
- Reduced material usage and improved resource efficiency
