The Sheet Plant Association (SPA) is encouraging members to strengthen operational performance and unlock measurable cost savings for their business through its Lean Manufacturing Health Check Initiative. The Health Check Day is provided at no cost to SPA members, fully funded by the SPA.
This initiative is one of a number of Sheet Plant Association member benefits that can deliver a return several times greater than the annual SPA membership fee, by helping businesses reduce waste, improve machine performance and increase overall efficiency.
Lean Manufacturing focuses on eliminating inefficiencies and embedding continuous improvement. For corrugated converter sheet plants, this can mean reduced downtime, lower waste levels, improved speeds, enhanced quality and stronger team engagement.
To support members, the SPA offers a free one-day Health Check, delivered in partnership with Acumen Consulting. Led by Alan Millar, a highly experienced Lean Manufacturing specialist, the assessment provides an independent, expert review of operations. Working across multiple manufacturing sites each year, Alan brings insight into best practice and emerging ideas that individual businesses may not otherwise encounter.
Each assessment is tailored, often using a McKinsey framework, to provide a structured review of:
- Operating systems;
- Management infrastructure;
- Culture, mindsets and behaviours.
The Health Check day includes identification and analysis of practical cost-saving opportunities and concludes with a clear, actionable recommendations session, identifying where and how improvements can be made.
For those wishing to go further, a structured Lean Manufacturing programme with Acumen can support teams in delivering sustained operational improvements with minimal disruption. SPA members are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to invest in their operations, reduce losses, and improve performance across their business.
