Akarton has confirmed that it is expanding in Germany, taking on a new production site in Schüttorf, geared towards high-volume programmes. The site is located next to the Progroup sheet feeder facility.
“With this expansion, we are increasing our supply reliability and improving the predictability of throughput times,” said the company in a statement. “The value chain is deliberately organised short, with corrugated board production at the same location, so that transport movements are reduced and CO₂ pollution is reduced.”
The company emphasised that this new site is a supplement to its operation, not a relocation. Venlo in the Netherlands remains their location for niche, speciality and tailor-made solutions in small and medium runs, while Schüttorf in Germany will be for the large volume, bulk order jobs.
