It has been reported that Smurfit Westrock is set to close a corrugated box plant in City of Industry, CA. The plant in is expected to close in mid-December, as advised in a worker adjustment and retraining notification (WARN) letter. It is believed that as many as 141 employees will be affected.
Tony Smurfit, CEO, commented on the closure during the recent Q3 investor call, saying it was one of nine facilities that the company has permanently closed since it acquired WestRock in the summer of 2024 as part of consolidation efforts. “We will continue closing down inefficient or loss-making operations, including the recently announced closure of a corrugated facility in California,” he said on the investor call.
