Newark facility is set to close

It has been reported in local press that WestRock is closing its Newark, NJ plant. Production at the facility, which is located on McCarter Highway, will be moved to other plants, the company said. It is believed 100 people could be affected by the closure, but the company is encouraging employees to try and find work at other plants in the group.

“As a company, we balance delivering value to our customers with also the need to maximize the efficiency of our operations,” said a company spokesperson. “We had extra capacity in some of our other facilities, and in order to stay competitive, we are moving production to some of those facilities. The decision to close this plant in no way reflects upon the employees. It is a strategic decision based on an analysis of the profitability, capacity and future potential of the plants in this area.”
