Ondulys expands converting capacity
Ondulys, part of the VPK Group, has begun an extensive investment plan at its Saint-Quentin site. The first phase – in which the buffer area between corrugator and finishing machines was automated and the installation of a Bobst Expertline 8.20 to expand capacity – has now been successfully completed.
The Expertline 8.20 uses the very latest technology and makes Saint-Quentin one of the few European production sites with such a converting machine. It combines a number of advantages, with short set-up ensuring fast order change. The machine has been equipped with both a prefeeder and palletiser, enabling a maximum speed of 24,000 units per hour. This new machine line increases the capacity of the plant by some 25 million sqm, bringing the total capacity to 130 million sqm per year of converted material.
Besides the installation of the new finishing machine, the zone between corrugator and finishing machines was further optimised with the construction of a mezzanine floor. The mezzanine floor joins the administrative offices to the production halls. It is equipped with a marked walkway for extra safety. The next phase of the programme will see a start on increasing the flat bed die-cutting capacity. In the last phase, the site will see the construction of a new high bay warehouse for finished goods.
