UK Young Designer competition

Pro Carton, the European Association of Carton and Cartonboard manufacturers, has teamed up with its UK counterpart, BPIF Cartons, to bring its prestigious Young Designer Award to the UK for the second year running. The competition challenges young designers to create a sustainable, highly functional solution from cartonboard, with the winner set to take home an Apple iPad worth £500. The UK Young Designer competition is now open for entries and has already garnered interest from students and design colleges around the country. The winner will be awarded the ‘UK Young Designer 2018’ accolade and prize in a prestigious ceremony this December.

Balasz Kovacs

Last year’s edition saw aspiring packaging designer and London student Balasz Kovacs bag the top prize for his straight forward yet cleverly-designed street food carton. Judges praised Kovacs for jumping on a rising trend and coming up with a cost-effective concept that was easy to use for both consumers and vendors.

Tony Hitchin, General Manager of Pro Carton said, “We’re delighted to once again be working with BPIF Cartons to home in on UK talent. The Young Designer competition is so important because our aim is twofold: to reward hard work and creativity whilst promoting the use of sustainable materials to the next generation of packaging designers. They are who will continue our mission to reduce plastic waste globally, so it’s vital we engage with them.”

The competition is an offshoot of the Pro Carton Young Designer competition, one of Europe’s leading annual young talent awards for packaging design. Award entries for the 2018 Award have been flooding in, with the total submissions already 40% higher than last year with still over a month to go until they close. Entries close 17th May 2018. Click here to enter the UK Young Designer Competition.
